Adventures In TerrierVille
Well, last night was interesting.
To give you a bit of background before I get into the story, I have two dogs. Terriers, in fact. My youngest, Beaux, has a doggy allergy problem that took umpteen visits to a vet and eventually a trip to a specialist at Auburn University to figure out. This involved blood tests, skin scrapes, biopsies, possible anal probes and who knows what else they did to my baby. Whatever it was, it was worth it as it provided a solution to his allergy problems while also quickly depleting my vacation money. Double dip.
Since the diagnosis, Beaux has since taken a pill every other day and an allergy shot every month and has bene doing fine. Last night, I gave Beaux his shot just like usual, and things were normal for a few minutes. We went outside to do the nightly business, and Beaux suddenly sat down on his haunches, then fell over on his side. And didn’t move. I immediately sprang into action FREAKED THE HECK OUT and rushed to him to see what the heck was happening. He was panting heavily, and I noticed his eyes had gotten mucousy (GROSS I know I can’t stand doggie eye boogers) and he wasn’t responding to me. This went on for what seemed like an eternity but it was only a few minutes, and I tried to get him up and he wouldn’t move. After more begging and trying to bribe him with cheetos to no avail, which always works, I knew this was serious. He was still getting air in and didn’t seem to be in pain, so I tried to get him to sit up. Ever try to balance a weeble wobble? My dog was imitating me on Bourbon Street. He sat up, teetered two feet and fell over again. I finally drug/carried him back inside the house where I got in touch with one of Beaux’s vets and thank the sweet baby jedebuddah for Face Time because he could see Beaux and I could see him and OMG that made me feel better. We monitored him for a bit and he determined that he was ok for the night and I should consult with his specialist ASAP.
My other dog Teddy was fabulous the entire time. He stuck by Beaux but didn’t get in the way, and after Beaux fell asleep he stood watch over him. It’s amazing to me how dogs react when they sense things aren’t right.
Today Beaux is back to normal, bouncy, barky and running amok outside. Spoke to the allergy vet over the phone who said he should be fine but we are rearranging his shot schedule so this won’t happen again. Apparently a month is too long, and his system reacts better when his shot is bi-weekly.
Thanks for all of the internet love for Beaux and I last night, looks like things are back to normal here at the house of two terriers. Well, depending on your definition of normal.

Terrier Grooming 101
UPDATE from The Boys : OMG KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT RUN RUN RUN HIDE HIDE HIDE !!!
UPDATE from Me : Lawdy. I feel like I’ve been wrestling greased pigs. That thing should come with doggie valium. With a human side dose. Good thing I kept the receipt.
Today I am about to attempt the unheard of. I’m going to vacuum my dogs.
Yes, that’s what I said.
The boys are ready. (that’s not fear on their fuzzy little faces, it’s curiosity.)
This should be interesting.

Beaux vs. The Internet
My dog Beaux hates the Internet.
It’s not you, it’s him. Really.
He has discovered he can close my MacBook with one push of his giant head or a swat from his massive paw.
Earlier today he licked the cover of my iPad. I think he’s planning to eat it.
Sizing up his opponent……
Moving in for the kill …..
Towering over his prey….
The head – butt …..
Victory is his ….
Can we play now ?
