Sigh. I gotcha, Kim. (Look, I think I'm delurking!) I'm about to break-up with my older brother permanently. Ugh.

Good luck and many, many hugs.

It's good to know that there are gorillas in every jungle....er, family.
I have seen it time and again when people die. My dad and my aunt didn't speak for years after their father died because she went and cleaned out everything out of grandpa's house that she wanted. Ummm ya there were 5 other siblings!! hello! None of them spoke to her and until she died she was on the outs with everyone. She could have rectified it at any time by sharing but chose not to.
When my dad died, he had a new wife. He had changed his will to include a $30,000 payment to her. They were married a month before he died. So in order to get that money for her my 6 siblings and I had an auction sale, sold everything and then gave her her money. We had to buy anything of mom's and dad's that we wanted in order that we have enough to give her. We ended up with a few things and a little cash. In retrospect it was actually a good way to do it. No fighting. We all agreed that the will was not worth a fight.
Now when my husband died, I let the boys choose what guns etc they wanted. I am glad I did it that way because they each have the things they want and I was in control of what went. I didn't need any of his man stuff and it should go to the boys. As far as people supporting your loss, it really doesn't happen. People go their own ways and forget that you maybe need them still. Don't expect him to change.

Good luck with everything.

Hugs

Grown men shouldn't be allowed to be assholes to people just because they ARE assholes. I think we all know of someone like Kenny, and it's sad how self absorbed people can be. However, I know when you set him straight, you'll do it right. Best of luck.

Stick to your guns, lady. Your mom needs you more than ever since this ass-hat brother has divorced himself from the family.

Family members can inflict worse pain than strangers because they know where to hit.

He's divorced y'all --- return the favor.

Ugh... family crap. I can relate all too well. When you're done giving Kenny a piece of your mind, would you come to Minnesota and do the same with my aunt?
All joking aside, it's sad that someone who has watched people he is supposed to love grieve over two losses in a short amount of time and still manage to only think of himself. Families are such a screwed up thing... good for you for standing up for your mom and yourself.

I can totally identify with this story. I think after a while, even with family, we have to be true to ourselves and stand up for what we believe in. If they're not around after you do it, were they really worth it in the first place?

Although I don't know the whole story, it breaks my heart that your uncle is being so selfish regarding your mother. She's lucky to have you.

And this is why I love you.

You're not afraid to speak your mind and use your voice. You speak clearly, efficiently. I remember your post about political sides, I remember it clearly because you spoke your peace without being rude, you stood your ground yet you did it respectfully.

Thank you for having integrity and for always standing up.

You are so so strong, Kim. But more than that, you're an inspiration.

Now go kick some ass!
