Spring Beaux …..
These are the pills that I have to give Beaux 3x a day for the next 6 weeks.
These are the treats that I hide above pills in.

This is the shampoo that I have to bathe him in twice a week, leaving on his skin for at least 10 minutes. Have you ever tried to keep an 18 month old, 89 pound terrier in a confined space for 10 minutes? Good times.

This is where I found one of the pills. The treat? Well, at least he swallowed that.

This is the phone I used to make the appointment to the doggie dermatologist, (yes, DOG DERMATOLOGIST) my veterinarian referred me too.

And this ? I’m renaming him Spring Break Trip 2010. Cause that’s how I’m paying for it.

Awwww, poor Beaux………and poor, Kim.
He is so Handsome!and looks oh so innocent LOL ! I don’t know if u have ever tried this but the vet told me to wrap my Lucys flea pill in a piece of cheese ! It works everytime!
Ouch in the pocketbook. And pill pockets? Really? I use a slice of american cheese. Works like a charm.
And you’re right. Worth every penny and all the struggles of a bath 2x/wk.
We love our babies, for me they keep me sane (don’t say it.. don’t!).
And nice purple shoes. Envious, I am.
Oh Kim, I have been down this road. My Miss Maizie had awful allergies for her entire 16 years on this planet, she even had to have a special formulation of allergy shots. Have you tried putting your hand in his mouth, gently prying down the lower jaw and pushing the pill down his throat with your index finger(at the back of his tongue)? Then you give the treat of cheese or meat so they will swallow the pill on down.
I got to be an expert at that particular method of puppy pill popping and had it to less than a three second process.
Also, has the dermatologist recommended any type of special diet? We found that with Miss Maizie, when she had foods that were rich in the Omega oils, that her skin did wonderfully.
But the BEST, BEST thing for her skin and allergies ever was the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet(aka-BARF). Google it. Look around on the net. Basically you feed your dogs an Atkins type diet of raw meat and raw bones with a few fresh veggies thrown in. There are also some wonderfully prepared BARF foods out there Steve’s Real Food is one that comes to mind-frozen chunks of chopped raw meat and bones.
The whole theory behind the BARF diet is that dogs are not physically able to digest-wheats and corn which are the main ingredients in most dog foods. You’ve never seen a dog attack a wheat or a corn field, is one of the main sayings.
Let me tell you Miss Maizie did so well on the BARF that at 9 years old she acted like a puppy and didn’t itch at all. We fed her that for two years and she did wonderfully. The only reason we gave it up was my pregnancy with my son-the site and smell of the raw meat made me ill.
Sorry to take over your blog and write a book, but like I said, I have been down this road. Take care.
Kim, one of my dogs is a chewer, so hiding his pill in something just didn’t work. So, after checking with the vet, I took the pill apart and mixed the contents with a little squirt cheese — let him lick the plate. Worked like a charm.
I don’t know how you’re going to keep him confined for 10 minutes — good luck with that.
It’s amazing what we’ll do for our loves. He is so cute! I want him. How far are you from [s]Colorado[/s] Kansas? You can’t track my IP right?
Oops, maybe I shouldn’t have given you my info.
Never mind. I hate dogs
We tried hiding the pills in the those pill pockets too, and they didn’t work too well. Cats are harder to give pills to then dogs. Mixing the powder from the capsule with cheese spread might work. Otherwise you’ll have to try the “shove it down the throat” technique. Good luck!!
What happened to Bo? I’ll see your doggy dermatologist and raise you a doggy cardiologist. Kallie has been taking medicine twice a day every day for the last couple of years and still thinks I’m trying to poison her. If you have to stuff it down his throat, I learned how not to get bit. Wrap his upper lip under his top teeth. The first time he bites himself, he’ll stop.
